Tragic Shooting: Nine Victims Identified in Georgia High School Shooting, 14-Year-Old Colt Gray Suspect Arrested
Following the incident, nine more victims—eight children and one teacher—were sent to hospitals with injuries, the GBI announced earlier in the day.
Within minutes, authorities encountered the suspect, 14-year-old Apalachee High School student Colt Gray, who promptly turned himself in and was placed under arrest, according to the GBI. According to the GBI, he will face murder charges and go through an adult trial.
Authorities stated that it’s unclear if any of the victims were specifically targeted.
Parents and students voice their opinions
Sergio Caldera, 17, a senior, claimed to have heard gunshots while in chemistry class.
“My teacher goes and opens the door to check what’s going on. There is an active shooter, so a second teacher rushes in and orders her to seal the door,” Caldera told ABC News.
He claimed that once his teacher locked the door, the pupils fled to the back of the space. Caldera reported hearing cries coming from outside while they “huddled up.”
Caldera claimed that at one occasion, someone hammered on his
knocked on the classroom door and repeatedly yelled, “Open up!” Caldera claimed to have heard further gunshots and screaming after the banging ceased.
He stated they later evacuated to the football field with his pupils.
Gunfire was heard in the classroom, according to Kyson Stancion, who also said he “heard police scream, telling somebody, ‘There’s a shooting going on, get down, get back in the classroom.'”
He admitted to ABC News, “I was scared because I’ve never been in a school shooting.”

As he and his wife hurried to the school and waited to speak with their son, Jayden, father Jonathan Mills described the event as a “emotional roller coaster”.
Reaching out to youngster Jayden and finding out he was fine was “overwhelming” and “exhilarating,” Mills told ABC News.
“You don’t expect things like that to happen growing up in this area,” police officer Mills said.
“I’m a mother of three kids. You never give that much thought—all three of them attend this particular group of schools,” he remarked.

Three patients were brought to Northeast Georgia Health System’s hospitals with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to the system. It also said that five patients with symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks visited its hospitals.
