Senior Kara Welsh Murder: Murder Suspect of 21-Years-Old Winning College Gymnast Kara Welsh Shot and Killed Arrested
WHITEWATER, Wisconsin
– The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater community is in grief for senior Kara Welsh ahead of the start of the fall semester.
The 21-year-old lady was shot early on Saturday morning in her downtown Whitewater apartment, according to the police.
In relation to her demise, a 23-year-old male Welsh knew was taken into custody, according to the Whitewater Police Department.
The suspect’s identity is still under wraps.
According to a press release from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Welsh is a Plainfield, Illinois, student gymnast.
Welsh’s influence on the Warhawk community is “impossible” to describe, according to a statement released by her coach, Jen Regan, who also said that Welsh’s legacy will “live on through Warhawk gymnastics forever.”
Regan stated in the statement, “Kara truly lifted each and every one of us up in her time as a Warhawk gymnast. She was a powerful athlete, devoted teammate, and the light in everyone’s dark days.”
Welsh competed in competitive gymnastics and won the 2023 national vault championship with a score of 9.825.
Welsh again tied the program record in 2024 with a mark of 9.875, becoming a two-time WIAC champion in the vault.
Ryan Callahan, the athletic director at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, referred to Welsh as a “true Warhawk.”
“We are all fortunate to have spent time with her over the past three years,” Callahan continued. She improved everyone around her and was unselfish. Nancy, her mother, and the rest of her family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.
A GoFundMe has been set up by friends of the Welsh family to assist with funeral cost.
On Tuesday, the opening day of classes, flags at the institution will fly at half-staff in remembrance of her legacy.
