San Antonio Bus Accident: East Central High School and Heritage Middle School students injured after Friday morning crash on U.S 87 near Eastside of Bexar County

On Friday morning, August 30, a school bus transporting pupils to Heritage Middle School and East Central High School was involved in an accident. Officials from the East Central Independent School District, however, want to make it clear that no pupils were seriously hurt in the little collision.

The number of pupils on board the East Central ISD bus at the time of the crash on Friday morning in the extreme Eastside of Bexar County, in the 10500 block of US 87, is unknown. Although initial responders reported that none of the students needed immediate medical assistance, ECISD Marketing and Communications Director Brandon Oliver verified that a small number of pupils were taken for additional medical care at their request.

Oliver stated, “Every first responder on the scene, including EMS and firefighters, reported that there were no serious injuries.” However, we complied with requests from students saying things like, “Oh, I want to see a doctor or go to the hospital.” There were, I think, about four or five of those.

Oliver stated that the request for additional medical care had been granted, but that no students needed to be hospitalized right now.

Oliver arrived at the scene after the second vehicle involved in the incident had been removed, therefore the cause of the crash is still unknown. Despite his statement that it was evidently a “very minor accident,” not much more information was available on Friday morning. After the collision, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office did help with traffic management, though.

According to the report, “We helped East Central by offering traffic assistance for a school bus collision involving an 18-wheeler.” “I know some students were transported for treatment, but I don’t have details on injuries or the number of students who were transported while they handled the crash.”
