The crash took place on Rand Road, a major thoroughfare in the area. According to the Arlington Heights Police Department, the accident involved two vehicles: a Dodge Charger and a Hyundai Santa Fe.
The Dodge Charger, driven by 21-year-old Samuel Horcher from Des Plaines, was heading northwest on Rand Road when, for reasons still under investigation, it veered into an oncoming turn lane. This sudden deviation led to a violent collision with a Hyundai Santa Fe at the intersection of Euclid Avenue.
The driver of the Hyundai, identified as an 18-year-old resident of Arlington Heights, sustained severe injuries in the crash. Emergency responders had to work diligently to extricate him from the wreckage, a process that underscores the severity of the impact.
He was then rushed to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, a Level I trauma center in Park Ridge, known for its specialized care in handling critical injuries. The young man’s condition remains serious, with doctors continuing to monitor his progress closely.
