Cutter Baird Obituary News: 19-Year-Old Soldier Cutter Baird Dies After Jumping off Dillingham Street Bridge in Columbus on Labor Day
Columbus, Georgia
– According to the coroner, a 19-year-old soldier perished after jumping from a Georgia bridge during what was meant to be an enjoyable Labor Day excursion.
The death was identified by Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan as 19-year-old Cutter Baird, a soldier assigned to Fort Moore.
According to the coroner, Baird and another young soldier made the decision to leap over Columbus’ Dillingham Street Bridge, which is situated around 100 feet above the Chattahoochee River, on Monday at 2:00 p.m. as they were partying.
According to Bryan, the 19-year-old struck the water chest first, emerged from the river, then slumped, passing out from a shortage of oxygen. After being brought to the hospital, he passed away there.
Sadly, he made a belly flop landing. That was similar to him landing on concrete at that distance, causing blunt force injuries to his chest, according to Bryan.
The coroner stressed that Baird’s actions were a terrible accident rather than an effort at suicide.
“Let’s just pray for this family and their friends,” he uttered.
Bryan cautions against bridge jumping since he has witnessed multiple fatalities from the behavior in the area.
“I would advise against it,” he remarked. “It will only take one instance before it ends your life.”
Baird served as Rock-A-Roo’s Animal Sanctuary’s vice president. The company remembered him with a post on social media.
Part of the message said, “We will live every day in his honor doing exactly what he would want us to do, continue this fight. His heart and love for animals cannot be matched.”
