Chris Davis Cause of Death Madison: In loving memory of Sun Prairie West High School Basketball Coach who was killed in tragic Madison, WI shooting
According to his son Chris Davis Jr., Chris Davis Sr., the former boys basketball coach at Sun Prairie West, passed away. The cause of death has not been disclosed to the public.
Davis was very close to his son, a standout player for the Wolves who won the 2024 Wisconsin State Journal/WiscNews boys basketball Player of the Year award, leading the state in points.
“Everyone in the world is aware that if you see me, you’re also seeing my pops too. Man, Big Dawg, I don’t even know if I could stay here long without you,” Davis Jr. posted on Instagram on Saturday. “I can’t do this without you, Dad. Please give me one more basketball game, one more talk, one more everything. I’m hurt. Everyone adores you, dad.
“I never imagined that I would hear this at 6:55 a.m. I truly love you, Dad, so please please return to me.”

After graduating from Madison East in 2007 and UW-Whitewater in 2014, Davis Sr. played for the UW-Whitewater men’s basketball team that won the NCAA Division III national championship in 2012. He averaged 22.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while playing for the Division III national team and the WIAC player of the year.
