Apalachee High School Shooting: First Victim of Tragic Apalachee High School Shooting Identified as David Phenix , 4 Confirmed Dead, 30 Injured
It has been determined that the special education math teacher was the first casualty of the horrific massacre at Apalachee High School.
David Phenix was shot in the foot and hip, breaking his hip bone, but he survived the attack and was taken to the hospital.
Following the horrific attack on the Georgia high school, at least four individuals are thought to be dead and up to thirty injured.
The public has not yet received any information from police about the shooter, and they have cautioned that it may take “days” to learn the accused’s age, gender, or relationship to the school.
On Wednesday, Phenix’s daughter Katie disclosed that her father ‘arrived to the hospital alert and conscious’ and was taken directly to surgery.
“He is stable and just recovered from surgery,” she stated.
We’ll keep you informed as we learn more. Though we are extremely fortunate, kindly remember our family and the AHS family in your prayers.
Phenix has 22 years of experience as a teacher. Although he had planned to retire in 2023, Apalachee approached him about taking a job as golf coach.
“The day after he formally announced his decision, he received an offer to become a golf coach at Appalachee High School. The timing couldn’t have been better,” his wife stated.
“He was only “retired” for three days in total!”Since I’ve always enjoyed watching you engage with the children and have an influence, I’m actually relieved that our retirement trip plans will have to wait.
The information is released as CNN reported that on Wednesday morning, four individuals were shot and died.
There is a suspect in custody, but no other information has been released to the public.
Apalachee High School student Melanie reported that an alert indicating a “code red” and a red flashing light began to go out in her classroom.
She informed local reporters that the fact that the light never came on during drills made her feel that the experience was genuine and serious.
As soon as their teacher turned out the classroom light, her students ducked into the corner of the space.
While many of her pals didn’t have cell service, Melanie claimed to have one, so she contacted her own family first before allowing her peers to message their parents using her phone.
The gunman entered Camille Nelms’ classroom, the 14-year-old told WXIA.
“I was in tears.” She remarked, “I didn’t want to die that way.”‘I’m going to get you,’ her mother texted the worried student.
When her mother got to the school, she described the situation as “chaos,” with a “giant” line of parents waiting to be reunited with their kids. She expressed her gratitude for Melanie’s survival and hugged her upon hearing her voice.
At 10:23 a.m. on Wednesday, Erin Clark’s son Ethan texted her to inform her that a school shooting was taking place.
“School shooting rn (right now)” was what he wrote. I’m terrified. I’m not making this up.
In response, his mother told him right away that she was going to be leaving work. Ethan responded with a devastating note that said, “I love you.”
“I also love you, baby.” How are you doing? stated Clark.
Ethan informed her he was in class and added, “There’s a dead person.”
