An Ann Arbor doctor has been identified as the man who passed away last week while riding his bike.
Dr. Mark Oberdoerster, 68, passed away in Ann Arbor Township on Saturday, August 24, according to Lt. Eugene Rush of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.
Further details concerning the circumstances surrounding the accident was not immediately mentioned, as investigation is ongoing.
Mark, the eldest of three brothers, was raised in South Euclid, Ohio. Serving as a wayward altar boy at St. Margaret Mary Elementary School, Mark was a devout Catholic. Prior to going to Hawkin School on an athletic scholarship and graduating in 1974, he attended Cathedral Latin High School. He wrestled for the University of Cincinnati while he was a student. Mark continued his education, graduating in 1982 from the Medical College of Ohio, which is now the University of Toledo Medical School. He finished his internal medicine residency in Cleveland, Ohio’s Mount Sinai Hospital.
For more than 35 years, Dr. Oberdoerster was a practicing physician in the Ann Arbor/Canton area. He had a great time mentoring aspiring doctors in both hospital and private settings. He was one of Partners in Internal Medicine’s (PIIM) founding physicians. Developing relationships, even close friendships, with the people he served was his life’s work. He genuinely believed that helping his community was the greatest honor of his life. He never chased after attention or accolades.
