Drowning: Logan Donald Ries, 25 of Montpelier Identified as Victim of Lake Pioneer Drowning
The Pioneer Police Department released a news statement about the most recent search and recovery operation that took place at Lake Pioneer. This is how the statement is written.
“Pioneer First Responders and Pioneer Police responded to Lake Pioneer off Lakeshore Drive on the evening of September 18, 2024, in reference to a possible drowning. After arriving, a male subject was contacted and confirmed that there had been a boating accident that may have resulted in another male drowning.
“Local authorities arrived on the scene to try to save the person who was supposedly in the water. Following the failure of those efforts to find the victim, a recovery operation was started. Logan Donald Ries, 25, of Montpelier, perished in Lake Pioneer after his canoe overturned, and several agencies from Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana worked together to find him.
On September 20, 2024, at 7:17 p.m., Mr. Ries was found. An active and ongoing inquiry is still underway in this case. We are sending our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Ries during this trying time. Chief of Authority Timothy Livengoo.
The event happened on Wednesday, September 18, in the evening, as indicated in the press release and in earlier reports by The Village Reporter. Up until now, very little information has been made public due to the delicate nature of the situation and a desire to get in touch with the victim’s relatives.
This rescue and recovery effort encompassed many agencies, and local businesses helped these officials during this difficult time by giving complimentary meals.
