Police Update: Stephen E. Hobbs Identified as Victim of Fatal Vehicle-Bicycle Accident East on Roberts Boulevard

Fort Smith, Arkansas The Fort Smith Police Department is looking into a fatal bicycle-vehicle collision that happened on Friday, September 20, around 7:30 AM, close to the 549 overpass and the 10300 block of Roberts Boulevard.

A car heading east on Roberts Boulevard collided with a cyclist who was riding east ahead of the car in the accident. Medical staff declared the cyclist, identified as 68-year-old Stephen E. Hobbs, dead at the scene.

Mr. Hobbs was a longtime local and passionate cyclist who was well-known for his commitment to being active and taking advantage of the great outdoors. His family has been informed, and chaplains have been sent to offer consolation.

The driver in question stayed at the scene and is assisting the Fort Smith Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Unit with its ongoing investigation in full. As of right now, no charges have been brought.
