Jyilek Harrington Shooting: 21-Year-Old WVSU Football Player Jyilek Harrington Identified as Victim Killed in Charlotte Shooting

The shooter in the Charleston incident on Wednesday night has been identified.

Jyilek Harrington, a 21-year-old Charlotte resident, was the victim of the shooting, according to a statement from Charleston Police.

According to the CPD, officers were called to a disturbance in the 700 block of Regency Drive after several gunshots were heard. On the scene, Charleston Fire authorities made an effort to save lives.

A spokesman for the communications department at West Virginia State University stated that Harrington was a senior there. This year, he had recently transferred there and was on the football team, where he played inside linebacker.

West Virginia State University President Ericke Cage stated in a statement that Jielek was a senior on the football squad for the Yellow Jackets. He was a model student-athlete and a leader in our community as well as on school. We are praying and thinking of Jyilek’s family during this difficult time as they deal with the loss of this amazing young man.

Furthermore, a GoFundMe is being created by the Athletic Department in Jyilek’s honor. This will be a means of carrying on Jyilek’s vital job of supporting less fortunate families, who would set up a GoFundMe over the Christmas season. During this sad moment, we extend our deepest sympathies to Jyilek’s friends, family, coaches, and teammates.
