On September 3, 2024, the community of Harris County was shaken by the tragic death of Deputy Constable Maher Husseini, a dedicated officer of Precinct 4. The incident occurred in broad daylight as Husseini was on his way to work, a routine journey that ended in a horrifying act of violence at the intersection of Richmond Avenue and Fondren Road in southwest Houston.
At approximately 12:45 p.m., Deputy Husseini was approached by a suspect who, without provocation, opened fire on the officer’s vehicle. Multiple shots were fired, and Husseini was critically injured. As HPD officers closed in, the suspect attempted a final, desperate bid to escape by driving the vehicle off the Causeway Bridge into the water. Despite the dangerous plunge, the suspect managed to exit the vehicle, only to be apprehended by the pursuing officers while still in the water. The dramatic arrest brought some relief to a community reeling from the loss of one of its protectors.
