Richard Cunningham Obituary; Peekskill, New York Man and Town of Greenburgh Police Department Detective Dies At 60
The Town of Greenburgh Police Department NY are mourning the death of one of their beloved officer, Detective Richard Cunningham who passed away on August 31, 2024 at age 60.
The department confirmed his death in a statement that says “It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Detective Richard Cunningham, who has served for over 35 years with the Town of Greenburgh Police Department.
Our condolences go out to Detective Cunningham‘s family, friends, and coworkers. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
Who was Richard Cunningham?
New Yorker Richard Michael Cunningham lived in Peekskill. The son of Richard and Mary Cunningham, he was born on April 30, 1964, in the Bronx, New York.
After graduating from Mercy College with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, he began working as an NYPD police officer. He moved to the Town of Greenburgh Police Department in 1989 and has been employed there ever since.
Richard served as a decorated police officer for nearly 40 years, a career he cherished. He was regarded as one of the most successful investigators in Greenburgh Police Department history.
Rich has been called upon numerous times over the past thirty years to look into the most heinous crimes that have taken place in the area. He took great satisfaction in teaching a large number of junior investigators and had great success solving Major Cases and Cold Cases.
Richard loved to cook and tend to his garden. He was a devoted father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and soon-to-be grandfather. He devoted his time to coaching football and grilling while his children were growing up.
Richard enjoyed having a full house, full stomachs, and people to laugh at. He used to enjoy hiking, strolling along the waterfront in Beacon, and visiting the beach.
