Who was Ray Barnett?

When Ray Barnett transported a young child from his destroyed house to the safety of another community forty years ago, he was travelling to war-torn Uganda for humanitarian purposes.

The boy did what he did best on the journey: he sang. A program that has transformed the lives of thousands of youngsters and redefined the future of the African continent was started by that straightforward song of dignity and hope.

Ray had an innate sense that viewing gloomy pictures would make people uncomfortable and fatigued. He was aware that seeing the beauty and potential hidden beneath the gloom and misery was the only way to truly become motivated.

Ray made the decision to take a novel method. He realised that the secret to capturing people’s attention was to introduce them to the kids in person so they could hear their voices and their hopeful message.

He was the driving force behind Music for Life, a nonprofit organization that raised money to support thousands of impoverished children’s education and hope through various relief and development initiatives. He also founded the African Children’s Choir in 1984.
