Emily Long Cause of Death: Emily Jane Long, beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Georgia on August 28, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on January 15, 1952, in Atlanta, Georgia, Emily lived a life filled with love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.

Emily was a graduate of the University of Georgia, where she earned a degree in education. She went on to dedicate over 35 years of her life to teaching in the public school system, where she touched the lives of countless students with her passion for learning and her gentle, nurturing spirit.

A devoted mother, Emily was the proud parent of two children, Sarah and Michael, whom she loved deeply. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the aroma of her famous Southern cooking, which she joyfully shared with family and friends. She was also a cherished grandmother to three grandchildren, who will forever remember the stories, hugs, and cookies she lovingly prepared for them.

Emily was an active member of her local church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and participated in numerous community outreach programs. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, and she found great comfort and strength in her relationship with God.

In her free time, Emily enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time outdoors. She had a special talent for creating beautiful flower arrangements, which she often shared with neighbors and friends. Emily’s kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Emily is survived by her children, Sarah Long (John) of Atlanta, and Michael Long (Rebecca) of Savannah; her grandchildren, Emma, Jackson, and Lily; her sister, Margaret Thompson of Marietta; and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Katherine Long, and her brother, Robert Long.

A celebration of Emily’s life will be held on September 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church’s Children’s Ministry.

Emily’s legacy of love, kindness, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered.
